SPREAD THE WORD
Write a letter to the editor urging Montanans to vote no on I-147!

Stress these factual points:

    1. open-pit cyanide leach mining pollutes ground and surface water;
    2. open-pit cyanide leach mining harms nearby private property;
    3. open-pit cyanide leach mining creates messes that taxpayers pay to clean up;
    4. There is nothing new in I-147 - all the "new" requirements have been used at existing and past mines and they have failed miserably in protecting water quality and private property.
    5. I-147 is designed mainly to provide a special deal for Canyon Resources Mining Company, the Colorado mining company that has failed to clean up its existing mining damage in this state and which is funding more than 90 percent of the initiative campaign.

Please do not copy sample letters. Use your own words. Express your own feelings. Newspapers will not print letters that are obviously copied. Keep your letters under 200 words, and preferably much shorter. Most papers generally print any letter unless it is too long, defamatory, in poor taste, or it contains significant inaccuracies or poetry.

Mail or e-mail your letter to the address of any or all of the papers on the list below. Include your address and phone number. Papers usually have to verify that you wrote the letter. Some papers won't run letters from people not in their area, but it doesn't hurt to try. If you e-mail the letter, type it or paste it in our e-mail. DO NOT SEND AN ATTACHMENT.
